I was lucky enough to receive an illustrated copy of Stephen King’s Joyland and let me tell you that anyone who buys this in for a visual and literary treat! The artwork in this book is stunning! The map style drawing on the back is completely different but complements the cover very nicely. It’s bright tones show both side to the narrative.
When looking inside the book this is where the story really comes to life. The greyscale imagery in this book is simply stunning and to create so much depth on one side of a book is a real talent. The ironic use of the hearts between each paragraph is also something that I noticed and wanted to add to this collection.
Overall I think the artwork both tells the story of the novel and creates a chilling extra effect that you wouldn’t necessarily get otherwise.
