One of the best things about being a published author is hearing from readers. Even better than that is meeting them. I’ve done quite a few events since my book was launched in February:

From class sized library events…

Bishop Luffa

To cocktail evenings…

Drink Shop Do

From looking silly at quizzes…

Chichester Lit Quiz, L-R Jamie Thomas, Ali Sparkes, Peter Bone, candy Gourlay, Kathryn Evans

To looking silly in front of entire year groups…

La Retraite School

But there’s one event fast approaching that I am so excited about I can barely stand still.

The EDINBURGH Book Festival.

I do love a festival, especially literary ones – they bring people together who share a love of books, generate enthusiasm for reading and remind people that the written word still matters.  Hugely. Also, I do like an opportunity for dressing up…In fact, I love literary festivals so much, I’m attending YALC this year even on the day I’m not hanging out with Team Usborne.

And Edinburgh is surely the granddaddy of all the festivals?

I’m doing an event with Jo Cotterill, author of Electrigirl.  Jo is a girl after my own heart – there’s a bit of acting in her past (and present) so I’m really looking forward to sharing the stage with her. We’ll be talking about the Unusual and Unexpected in our books.

See, the dress up gene is strong in these two…

Jo Cotterill ready for the stage. Kathryn Evans ready for filming.

Though Jo writes for a slightly younger audience than I do, our books have a huge amount in common. We both look at questions of identity through a slightly sci-fi lens; examine the strain on friendships when your life spins out of control and take a quirky look at family life.

I’ll definitely be joining in with some of Jo’s fun activities and there’ll be some of my own…I may even share  my secret power stance. I forecast high levels of showing off, considerable laughter and occasional forays into serious discussion. I CANNOT wait. Also, I’ve never been to Scotland before, so, come August,  if you see a pink haired crazy woman skipping up and down the streets of Edinburgh with a smile as wide as a house on her face – that’ll be me. Come say hello!
